Mission Statement

Clarion County Arts Council mission: To promote fine arts in Clarion County by serving artists and arts organizations with networking resources, educational information, assistance, sponsorship, facilities support, and dynamic advocacy of artistic excellence.

But what does that mean?!

In a nutshell, CCAC is a group of volunteers who strive to enrich the community by supporting the arts (visual, performance, written, et al.). We do this in many ways such as by: coordinating venues and networking for local artists, bringing up-and-coming and well-known artists to the area and encouraging education through classes and workshops..

So, are you a real group or just a bunch of starving-artist-bohemians?

Oh, we're real. We even have By-Laws! (Not to mention t-shirts and a website!)

CCAC has elected officers who run the monthly meetings, which are Roberts Rules style. Decisions are made by majority vote of members in attendance. (See the by-laws for more detailed descriptions!) The Council is all volunteer-based and therefore various members help with various aspects of anything and everything we do.

Ok, so how did this all begin/ who pays for it?

Well, some of the details are sketchy (get it? Sketchy...cuz we're artists?! Ok, ok. Artists, not comedians...) and may have become a bit mixed up in the retelling, but the basic history is as follows:

A long, long time ago in Clarion there was a group called the Bi-County Artists.  The BCA faded and there was quite a hiatus with no arts council in the area.  This was unacceptable to some local citizens and so they banded together and in 1993 a 501c3 Arts Council, Incorporated group was formed, which meant they were eligible for grants.  In 1996, the group received its first grant form the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts.  The Pennsylvania Partnership for the Arts became Clarion Council Arts Council's main grant source starting in 1999.

Much of the funding continues to come from the PPA/PCA, as well as other grants that various members apply for.  CCAC also does fundraising in various forms, such as wine tasting events and art auctions.  Also, a portion of sales from works sold at Michelle's Cafe and other art shows goes back to the arts council.  Last but not least, members pay yearly dues.  We are, of course, a not-for-profit organization, so all earned monies goes towards doing everything our mission statement says that we do.

Wow. That was....interesting. What do you do with the money?

As mentioned, CCAC strives to enrich the community. This is done by bringing artists to the area as well as by encouraging local artists to be active in creating and sharing their talents.  In the past, the arts council has offered scholarships to local students who pursued a higher education in an arts-related field. We also offer a yearly non-juried Members' show,  annual juried art shows such as the Autumn Leaf Festival Art Show, an area High School show, and the always popular Mug show at Michelle's Cafe.

Over the years the CCAC has also sponsored events such as a version of "The Antique Roadshow", an art auction, various classes and workshops, an elementary school art show, a Jr High art show, several summer movie series and many open mic nights.

You mentioned workshops and classes. Are there any currently in session?

In the past we've done jewelry-making workshops, yoga and tai chi classes, and even birthday parties for kids! Check the classes and workshops link to see current activities..

Tell me again, what are your annual events?

Well, there are our monthly business meetings of course, which are open to the public.  CCAC, in conjunction with Michelle's Cafe, coordinates monthly-ish art displays. A schedule of artists as well as previous exhibitions and selected works of the artists can be seen by clicking here.

So, who've you brought to Clarion? Any one I'd know?

Perhaps! Here's a list! (If you have pictures and/or news clippings about any of these events, please contact us, we'd love to have a copy!)
